Hello, dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro I have been toying with the idea for a couple of years of building a data logger for my race car, as off the shelf itens start in the thousands of dollars.dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro I don't have any electronics experience, but am a self taught web designer and mechanic so I think I willl be able to get the hang of electronics...dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro I would need to be able to have data written to some sort of solid state memory from a variety of analogue and digital inputs, that would then be downloadable to PC....dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro I know it's an ambitious project, but any help on where to start would be greatly appreciated, or if anyone here has undertaken this sort of project before and has any advice, I'd love to hear from you.dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro Thanksdnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro dnnpopfro Peter |

| 1 | edu | beginner wants answers to data loggers!! Data logger will require a microcontroller. Go to www.maxim-ic.com The reason I suggest Maxim-Dallas is that they offer free samples and there is a free PC-based software that will allow you to program selected microcontroller directly from your PC, so no special progammer is required ( ftp://ftp.dalsemi.com/pub/microcontroller/dev_tool_software/mtk/ ) Good starting point will be to order free samples of the DS89C420 or one from this family .. This is 40-pin microcontroller so you will have plenty of pins to connect sensors and AD or DA converters. You will need a real time clock. While on Maxim's site, take a look at DS1307, DS1337 or similar. They can also be ordered as free samples .. As memory I would suggest I2C EEProm. Also A/D converter can share the same I2C bus. Both can be found on Maxim's site .. and ordered as free samples .. This is just the beginning .. Regards, IanP |
